mcg to mg converter

Type an amount in mcg or mg. Add the mg/mL on your vial's label to also see the mL and syringe units.

mg = mcg ÷ 1,000, and mcg = mg × 1,000

mg/mL

This does arithmetic on the numbers you type. It doesn't suggest a dose. Check the result with your prescriber or pharmacist.

That's

–mg

Type an amount

Worked example

250 mcg ÷ 1,000 = 0.25 mg. At 5 mg/mL, 0.25 mg is 0.05 mL, which is 5 units on a U-100 syringe.

How the math works

Milli means a thousandth and micro a millionth, so 1 mg is 1,000 mcg. With a label strength, mL = mg ÷ strength and units = mL × 100, because a U-100 syringe holds 100 units in 1 mL.

It's the same code the PepBloom app runs, and it runs in your browser. Nothing you type leaves this page.

Questions

How many mcg are in a mg?

1,000. So divide mcg by 1,000 to get mg, and multiply mg by 1,000 to get mcg.

Is mcg the same as µg?

Yes. mcg, µg and ug all mean microgram, a thousandth of a mg.

How many units is 250 mcg?

It depends on your vial's strength. At 5 mg/mL it's 5 units; at 2.5 mg/mL it's 10. Type the mg/mL from your label above.
